I've been testing the car for the past month or more ironing out small problems and finally  have got to the point where all is running perfectly other than only 5 miles range due to cheap second hand lead acid batteries, this will be addressed once the car is road legal.

Booked in for  an MOT and the car went through with no problems.
After asking, the garage that did the MOT very kindly provided me with a letter stating the car was now fully electric and considered by them to be road worthy, this I needed for the tax office along with photo's Mot, insurance recietes etc to enable me to get my FREE road tax disc.

All went well at the tax office the TT is now road legal.
Next step will be to upgrade to lithium batteries, to enable a usable realistic range.

  1. hello Martin

I have been following your build very closely since november last year, and have been really looking forward to your latest update, glad its road legal! I started a conversion of a vw polo 98 in november. all the major mechanical work is now done, just buying batteries and installing battery racks then doing all the control and wiring. so hope to be finished in may!

Just wanted to ask what the process of getting your car road legal was, ive heard various people going about it different ways, but no one seems to know an exact method.

My car is currently sorn but has a valid MOT. so to get it road worthy do you tax it as a petrol car, then apply for insurance (with who) and then they will probably want you to get another MOT an then while drivig the car have the V5 sent off to DVLA and changed?

    thanks for your help
